On March 17, 2025, Programa Genio, the educational advocacy arm of the ABS-CBN Foundation, conducted a one-day career coaching session at Tabgon National High School, Caramoan, Camarines Sur. The event gathered 153 senior high school students with 17 Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners, equipping them with essential knowledge and insights to navigate their future career paths.
The session focused on self-awareness and career exploration, helping students identify their unique talents, skills, and strengths. Through interactive discussions and mentoring, participants engaged in activities that encouraged them to reflect on their passions, abilities, and aspirations. Understanding oneself is a critical first step in making informed career decisions, and this approach ensured that each learner could align their future plans with their natural strengths and personal goals.
The impact was particularly profound for ALS learners, many of whom have had limited access to career guidance and structured learning experiences. Christine Ortiz, a 39-year-old Grade 11 ICT ALS learner, shared that she dreams of becoming a teacher and that the session gave her the clarity and motivation to continue despite personal challenges.
For these students—who often face challenges such as financial constraints, interrupted schooling, and self-doubt—the career coaching was an eye-opening experience. Several ALS participants conveyed that, for the first time, they felt empowered to envision realistic and achievable career paths based on their skills and interests. Some discovered potential in technical skills training, entrepreneurship, or further education, while others gained confidence in their existing talents and how they could be developed into sustainable livelihoods.
This initiative highlights PG’s commitment to bridging education gaps and reaffirming hopes and dreams for learners who need it the most. By developing Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, and Habits (KASH), PG aligns with AFI’s strategic direction on community rebuilding, ensuring that education remains a transformative force in people’s lives.
With additional support from donors, PG aims to expand its reach, particularly for ALS learners, by providing continuous career coaching, technical training, and access to livelihood programs that align with community rebuilding efforts.
AFI’s partners and donors play a crucial role in sustaining these initiatives. By investing in programs like career coaching, they help shape a future where every learner—regardless of background—has the opportunity to discover their potential and thrive.
Supporting Programa Genio’s mission can directly impact the lives of underserved students, empowering them with the tools to build a better tomorrow.
