JOBS AVAILABLE:
Project Communications and Advocacy Specialist (Project-based)
Primarily responsible for the development and implementation of Bantay Kalikasan – Citizen Science Project advocacy communications & IEC strategy and initiatives.
EDUCATION
- Gather inputs from relevant stakeholders and contribute in crafting and implementing the project’s communications and advocacy plan
- Conduct thematic research on the project’s advocacy materials and content in cooperation with subject matter experts
- Support the documentation of project initiatives and ensure that narratives, stories and learnings are collected, curated and used in advocacy activities
- Develop information and education strategies for community-based advocacy in order to effectively drive the relevant messaging and elicit response/engagement from the targeted communities
COMMUNICATION
- Create presentation and advocacy materials to ensure that the project’s advocacy is communicated to AFI stakeholders and audiences
- Work closely with Digital & PR team in developing and implementing the project’s advocacy messaging strategies that can be executed in the available Digital/Social Media Channels
- Work closely with the TV & Radio team in developing the project’s advocacy messaging strategies for relevant TV/Radio platforms (I.e. GDiaries & Kapamilya Konek)
- Review audience insights and develop messaging that will influence target audiences
PROJECT DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT
- Oversee the planning and implementation of advocacy/communications events for the project
- Help in monitoring and evaluating of the outputs, outcomes and impacts of the advocacy initiatives
- Help in establishing a network/coalition of key advocacy partners such as NGOs, POs, LGUs, and private sector organizations
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Attend relevant meetings related to advocacy processes and partnership meetings and other relevant internal and external meetings/functions as assigned by the project manager
- Collaborate with AFI’s Communications teams (Digital & PR, TV & Radio) in order to align the project’s advocacy strategies with overall AFI strategies
POLICY/SYSTEM COMPLIANCE
- Adhere to AFI’s Vision-Mission-Values and compliance with AFI/HRD policies, systems, and other applicable government regulations.
- Implement appropriate systems/procedures in the performance of his/her duties and responsibilities
REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge on environment issues, particularly reef and marine life protection
- Communications Strategies for Non-Profits
EXPERIENCE EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT REQUIRED:
- Two years of significant experience in environmental issues, particularly on advocacy / development communications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, or other Sciences is preferred
- Training in communication or social science is desirable
SKILLS:

Junior Scientist (Project-based)
Primarily responsible for conducting studies, gathering and analyzing data, and measuring results of the project based on scientific parameters to prove its effectiveness and value. He / she will also be responsible for recommending and designing action plans in order to maximize the project’s effectivity and ensure desired results are achieved.
Reef Monitoring:
- Monitor the reef scorecards to assess status and recommend action plans to improve results
- Develop new tools as necessary to improve monitoring of marine life and reef in the targeted communities
- Research and recommend ways of conserving and securing marine life in the targeted communities
Project Impact Monitoring:
- Conduct data gathering and analysis on the project’s impact on the reef, communities, partners, etc.
- Compare results and progress versus baseline in order to measure project effectiveness and overall impact
Project Tools Development & Assessment:
- Develop necessary tools and mechanisms in order to improve project efficiency/achieve desired results
- Coordinate with the IEC Specialist to develop learning materials/modules for the communities to learn and develop an appreciation of the concept of the citizen science and reef monitoring
As required: support other Foundation initiatives that are relevant to the goals and objectives of the program
REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE:

Project Manager (Project-based)
Primarily responsible for the overall management and leadership of the Community Resilience Through Citizen Science Project.
Strategic Direction and Planning
- Ensure that the Project Plan is aligned with AFI VM and strategies and Donor policies, agreements and expectations
- Ensure that sufficient external analysis, mapping, and needs baseline assessments are performed to develop plans and proposals designed to achieve the outcomes set for the project
- Ensure that resources are maximized towards the achievement of the goals and for the benefit of the partner-communities
- Review, evaluate and ensure an operational timeline for the activities and deliverables identified in the project work and development plan
- Collaborate with the stakeholders, partners, grant agency and support services to ensure alignment & achievement of total project goals
Partnership Development and Management
- Identify strategic project partners and ensure that they will provide appropriate and sustainable support in the implementation of the projects
- Monitor relevant trends across the various institutions and communities relevant to the project scope
- Facilitate the processing of MOAs between partners and stakeholders
- Coordinate with consultants, stakeholders and scientific advisers providing technical input on the projects activities and deliverables (e.g. methodology, trainings, data management)
- Provide team members, partners and suppliers with guidelines for proper documentation, financial reporting, monitoring and evaluation of the projects
- Provide project updates and monthly accomplishment and/or status reports
- Find ways to run the project in an efficient & effective manner through collaborations and partnerships
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Provide technical support for the monitoring and evaluation of outputs and deliverables
- Monitor relevant trends across the sector
- Participate in the monitoring and evaluation process (project plan activities monitoring & social impact monitoring) in coordination with Program Head and Technical Consultants
- Ensure the evaluation of all completed activities and deliverables
Internal networking and Coordination
- Establish regular and effective communication between the Main Office and the Project Sites and Partners
- Coordinate with the project team for updates on project deliverables and emerging issues and concerns; reporting these to the Steering Committee for resolution
- Coordinate with the support service groups regarding operations concerns
- Facilitate the synergy among the different programs and support services to ensure that the projects are delivered holistically
Staff Supervision
- Conduct regular meetings for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation

Policy/Systems Administration and Compliance
- Recommend systems/procedures for the improvement of task delivery related to specific areas of responsibility

Program Officer (Bantay Kalikasan)
Primarily responsible for conceptualizing, planning, and implementing Science, Nature Conservation, Environmental Education, and Advocacy Programs with Government Agencies, LGUs, academe, communities, stakeholders, partners, and the public in the following areas:
- Establishing partnerships and agreements with government and academic institutions, CSOs, NGOs, private sector, and communities
- Development, planning and implementation of Citizen science, monitoring and conservation programs
- Conceptualization, design and execution of Information, Education and Communication materials, activities, and campaigns
- Organizing content, logistics, facilitators, volunteers, and participants for Events, Workshops and Outreach activities
- Writing project proposals, budgets, and plans
- Monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Citizen Science: Develop programs, seek funding, plan and conduct activities with community partners, stakeholders, local government, academic and research partners on ecosystem and biodiversity monitoring, conservation, and protection
- Information, Education and Communication: plan, coordinate and implement IEC programs and campaigns such as Eco Camps, Eco Clubs, Eco Academy, Employee Engagement, outreach and workshops
- Partnership engagement strategy: maintain a comprehensive overview of current partners and volunteers; and provide suggestions/steps to leverage partnerships in the site and project areas
- Public awareness and communication: engage the public through digital, broadcast and other channels to spread awareness about environmental issues, advocacy action, and programs of the Foundation
