Rev Cruz is a remarkable illustrator whose passion for art goes beyond aesthetics, he is igniting hope and inspiring change. With a background in physical therapy specializing in Aquatics and Ergonomics, Rev combines his passion for illustrating as a member of Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK) to create impactful art that resonates with the most vulnerable in society. His dedication to making a difference through his work has earned him prestigious awards, including the Grand Prize in the 2018 PBBY Wordless Picture Book Award and 2nd place in the Philippine Graphic Fiction People’s Choice Awards.
Cruz’s ability to communicate heartfelt messages through his art is evident in his illustrated works such as “Paikot-ikot,” “Klekluk,” “Raisinhead: A Tale of a Modern-Day Tiyanak,” and “Pibo.” He has a talent for crafting narratives that impact and empower others, especially the most vulnerable in society. “Pibo,” one of his notable works, tells the story of a coffee-colored hero navigating the world to find his place, resonating with themes of identity and acceptance.
His dedication to creating art that resonates with children and Filipinos at a disadvantage has set him apart as an artist with a profound commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. This is reflected in one of his notable works, “Laging Handa,” which is part of the ABS-CBN Foundation E-cards collection supporting disaster resilience advocacy. The artwork presents a hopeful outlook on disasters and highlights the importance of preparing and planning for adverse situations, where children are often the most vulnerable.
