As of this writing, the government imposed a Luzon-wide lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), described by the World Health Organization as a pandemic after it killed nearly 8,000 and infected 197,000 worldwide.
I response to this crisis, ABS-CBN launched a campaign, called “Pantawid ng Pag-ibig”, a fundraising initiative to help local governments provide food and basic necessities to poor families who have been unable to source livelihood as a result of the enhanced community quarantine imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Announcing the campaign through news program TV Patrol, ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak encouraged citizens to course their donations through ABS-CBN Foundation (AFI). “Uumpisahan po namin ito sa Metro Manila at umaasa po kaming sa pamamagitan ng tulong ninyo, maaabot din namin ang ibang nangangailangang barangay,” said Katigbak. The Lopez Group, to which ABS-CBN belongs, is donating P100 million to jump-start the initiative. “Hangad po namin na walang magugutom sa panahong ito,” Katigbak added.
Trusted by donors for the past 30 years, ABS-CBN Foundation is committed to making sure that donations will reach the intended beneficiaries in the soonest time possible. AFI will be partnering with local government units who will package and distribute the items to the barangays.
