Lingkod Kapamilya’s Operation Sagip reached out to the families from low-lying communities in Marikina City displaced by the rising water level of Marikina River due to the heavy rains brought by tropical depressions Henry, Inday, and Josie.
Beneficiaries in Calumpit, Bulacan smile as they carry their food packs.
Aside from families displaced in Marikina, the emergency humanitarian and assistance program also reached out to families in Pasig City, Quezon City, Bulacan, and Rizal.
According to Barangay Captain Dave Bryan Sambilay of Brgy. San Miguel in Calumpit, Bulacan, their place is always affected once heavy rains occur. Last year, he said that also because of the rains brought by Habagat, the residents celebrated Christmas with flood waters around the area. “Mula po October hanggang January, may tubig. February na nawala,” he said. (From October last year until January of this year, there was still flood water in our area. It was around February when it subsided.)
“Ngayon naman po, iyong tubig ay kalahati hanggang lagpas tao na ang taas,” Sambilay added. (Now, the water is waist high to above an average person’s height.)
With its mobile kitchen, Operation Sagip served 7,607 individuals with hot soup while 3,821 families or 16,333 individuals received food packs.
Tropical Storm Inday enhanced southwest monsoon despite not making a landfall in the country.
