The ABS-CBN Foundation, Provincial Government of Leyte, and Leyte Farmers Associate formalized an understanding for the development of Leyte Peace Corridor as an ecotourism and adventure destination through a virtual ceremony on September 20, 2021.
The multi-sectoral partnership aims to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities and additional sources of income to members of farmers’ associations in Leyte. It encompasses the barangays of Lanawan, San Vicente, Kagbana, and Mahagnao.
Part of this program is developing a visitor’s center with a kitchen and comfort room, five units of eco-lodge, and cultivating a flower farm, herbs garden, and expansion of the vegetable garden.
With the assistance of the ABS-CBN Foundation and various government agencies, members of farmers’ associations have undergone different strands of training sessions that enhanced their leadership and business management skills and fostered their knowledge on agriculture, baking and pastry, and massage therapy.
The Peace Corridor is part of the Leyte Economics Program of the government of Leyte, a poverty reduction program that develops resilient, inclusive, and competitive community economies for the communities who were victims of armed conflict.
To date, the communities are set to undergo more training and capacity-building activities for skills enhancement and people empowerment. When the pandemic restrictions ease, interactive activities and instagrammable hotspots open to the public will soon rise in the four mentioned locations.
