“Children did not ask to be born, so it is the responsibility of the parents who produced them to make sure that they are raised right with the proper care and protection.”
– Beth Parrocha
Beth Parrocha is one of the most celebrated children’s book illustrators in the Philippines. She has illustrated about 50 books beloved by generations of children and children-at-heart. She received awards and citations from the National Book Awards, Gintong Aklat Awards, the National Children’s Book Awards, Noma Concours, Yahoo Asia, AFCC Samsung Kids Time Awards, among others. Specializing in watercolor and canvas, Parrocha’s award-winning works include “Ang Pambihirang Buhok ni Racquel”, “Tiny Feet, Tiny Shoes, and “The Pencil Who Would Not Write”.
As a founding member of Ang Ink (Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan), she champions for Filipino visual arts and artists. She inspires many young artists to become storytellers. “If you have seen the picture book, “Ang Pambihirang Buhok ni Racquel”, you would realize what it means to have an illustrator as co-author of a story and not merely a visual mimic of the writer’s story.” She believes that the best part of being a storyteller should be “that you are allowed to tell your story without being censored for it.”
Parrocha is at the forefront of the movement that promotes good values in Filipino literature for children. Her illustrious artistic journey is marked by a profound dedication to using talent as a force for good. With her work, “Family”, as one of the artworks in ABS-CBN Foundation’s E-Card Collection, she passionately supports children’s rights and development. It portrays her vision for a world where every child is nurtured and protected within a loving family. Her art serves as a reminder of the crucial role that families play in shaping children’s lives.
