ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. (AFI) inked an agreement with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) for the “Aqua Run: Splash for Smiles” to be held on January 26, 2020 at the Quirino Grandstand, Manila. Bantay Bata 163, AFI’s child welfare program, was named the beneficiary of the said event.
Tagged as the biggest assembly of beautiful smiles in the Philippines, this run for a cause aims to promote oral health through proper consumption of water instead of sweet liquid drinks. Other activities include dental check-ups, tooth-ball pit game, Zumba marathon, and a lot more.
Aqua Run is divided into four categories: 1K, 3K, 5K, and 10K, with entry fees of Php800, Php900, Php1000, and Php1100 respectively.
Aside from its goal to raise awareness on oral hygiene, part of the proceeds of this event will help the kids supported by Bantay Bata 163. On top of that, Philippine Dental Association President Dr. Ryan de Guzman will visit the Children’s Village, the half-way home of Bantay Bata 163 for abused children, to check the oral health of the kids once a month. PDA will also donate toothbrushes and hygiene kits for Bantay Bata 163’s Community Outreached Projects.
“[Some] children in the Children’s Village came from abusive and traumatic environments. With dental treatments being possibly traumatic also, we’ve come up with a specific plan that focuses on being emphatic with their situation and series of treatments that desensitizes the children and making sure that these children regain their trust in people or adults in their community,” said Dr. Ryan De Guzman.
