The “ber” months are upon us. Even though Christmas is still a few months away, the Philippines has already begun counting down for the merriest festivities of the year.  It’s no wonder award-winning illustrator and visual artist, Danielle “Dani” Florendo admits that her inspiration for the “Carolers” stems from a cherished tradition during the yuletide season. “Carolers”, is a beautiful piece shared by Dani Florendo for the ABS-CBN Foundation and Ang Ink e-cards.

“The artwork “Carolers” has few details compared to my previous works. I wanted to illuminate a tradition by making it the focus of the entire work. I illustrated two sisters performing a simple serenade.” Dani explained, “It’s a common sight but a warm memory of the Christmas tradition we all experienced.

An alumna of the University of the Philippines Baguio, Dani Florendo has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and is currently based in Baguio City. A staunch advocate for promoting children’s literacy and education, she is also presently teaching Fine Arts in her alma mater while pursuing writing her own stories. As an artist, she works on various mediums such as watercolor and digital media. She is influenced by books and stories from elders and oral traditions from communities, especially from the Indigenous People.

Dani is also known to give talks about the arts and mentor inspiring artists alike. When asked what she would tell her younger self she said “My advice would be to be resilient. There are days when you get tired and fatigued. It’s okay to rest; just remember to follow through – it will be worth it in the end”.

Christmas has been known to be a time of giving; hence, during these uncertain times, kindness and gratefulness abound. In the hopes of sharing the love, the ABS-CBN Foundation and Ang INK are featuring Christmas e-cards that make a unique gift that touches the lives of those in need.
