In a momentous step towards environmental sustainability and women empowerment, ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc., and Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines broke ground for a new central recovery hub of the Solid Waste Management Project in Lobo, Batangas.

The center will be a place where women-led organizations come together to drive sustainable waste management efforts while also creating livelihood opportunities to support their families. Through hands-on training in solid waste management and technical support from Envirocare Mgt. Precision, Inc., participants will be empowered to protect the environment and promote sustainability.

Lobo, Batangas, a coastal town rich in marine life, is home to fishing communities that rely on clean waters for their livelihood. Improper waste disposal severely threatens marine life, coral reefs, and local fisheries. This initiative is crucial in the long-term goal of protecting coastal ecosystems by preventing plastic and other pollutants from reaching waterways and the ocean.

“This project is important as it introduces the first solid waste disposal system in Lobo, Batangas. With the support of our dedicated partners—Coca-Cola, the local government, and the community—we are not just managing waste but laying the groundwork for a cleaner and more sustainable future. It challenges us to be more collaborative and committed to ensure the success of this project,” said Sar Alcayde Agcaoili, Program Head of ABS-CBN Foundation Bantay Kalikasan.

“We are deeply grateful that our community has been selected for this important project. We are looking forward to the knowledge and skills we will gain, as this initiative will not only create valuable job opportunities for us but also significantly contribute to our town by reducing waste and ensuring our surroundings and coastal areas remain clean,” stated June De Torres Ada, a participant and resident of Brgy. Masagitsit, Lobo, Batangas.

For years, ABS-CBN Foundation has been dedicated to protecting the environment and uplifting communities, while Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines has focused on sustainability and reducing wastesupporting communities in implementing solid waste management systems. Together, this project brings their shared vision of empowering people and inspiring stories that bring action and build opportunities for everyone to participate actively for the environment.
