ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. (AFI) and the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), through its social development arm, BPI Foundation (BPIF), are partnering to strengthen a shared commitment to promote a greener and better future for Filipinos.

Early next year, AFI and BPIF will collaborate on a series of activities and programs designed to help uplift the lives of Filipinos while creating a more sustainable environment for future generations. From teaching fundamental financial principles to environmental conservation, these two institutions are combining their respective strengths to create lasting and substantial change in the community.

Committed to realizing its vision of building a better Philippines, BPI consistently advocates for environmental sustainability through financial knowledge and responsible banking. In 2022 alone, the first bank in the Philippines and Southeast Asia also launched the country’s first sustainable investment fund suite, introduced a green time deposit product called BPI Green Saver Time Deposit, to finance (or refinance) green projects, and shifted to renewable energy for the power supply of one of its office buildings in Makati.

AFI’s Bantay Kalikasan (BK) has 25 years of experience in implementing projects with the goal of protecting and enriching our country’s natural environment. Bantay Kalikasan’s major undertakings include the rehabilitation of the La Mesa Watershed and Ecopark, estuaries of the Pasig River through the Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig, promotion of the proper treatment of hazardous wastes, and building communities of citizen scientists and Earth Warriors.

This partnership comes on the heels of the resolution of both environmental champions to aid reforestation and improve financial education among Filipinos this 2022. While BK has been nurturing the La Mesa Watershed since 1999, BPI, through BPI Foundation, has been providing local communities the skills, tools, and knowledge to engage in sustainable alternative livelihoods.

Together with Programa Genio and Sagip Kapamilya, the education and disaster resiliency programs of AFI, BPI Foundation and ABS-CBN Foundation are also looking to collaborate on a livelihood and education project for weavers affected by typhoon Odette in Bohol. This will also start in early 2023.
