The ABS-CBN Foundation (AFI) and DENSO Philippines Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to support the Bantay Baterya and Bantay Langis initiative of Bantay Kalikasan. The project aims to promote environmental sustainability through the responsible disposal and recycling of used lead-acid batteries and used oil. Through this initiative, both organizations are preventing hazardous waste from impacting the environment.

DENSO Philippines Corporation President, Yuji Torii, shared his thoughts on why large companies should integrate environmental sustainability into their operations.

During the signing event, held on June 25, 2025 at the DENSO Philippines Corporation headquarters in Calamba, Laguna, both institutions renewed a 5-year contract that initially started in 2017. In attendance from ABS-CBN Foundation were Sarah Agcaoili, Bantay Kalikasan Program Head; Sherwin Hinlo, Resource Mobilization and Donor Management Head of Operations. On the other hand, attendees from DENSO Philippines Corporation were Yuji Torii, President; Masao Nakane, Vice President; and Cesar Concibido, Environment and Data Privacy Head; Erikka Quiñola, Pollution Control Officer. Also in attendance was Jocelyn Panen from partner transporter and recycler Genetron International Marketing.
“DENSO minimizes environmental impacts through Eco Vision 2030, which establishes long-term environmental goals that encourage water and energy conservation, waste reduction, solar panel usage, and ISO 14001 certification.” Masao Nakane, Vice President of DENSO Philippines Corporation, discusses the company’s initiatives to promote innovation and minimize environmental impact. “It also engages employees in environmental education and community activities, collaborating with suppliers, government entities, and other stakeholders to encourage eco-friendly practices.”

Sarah Agcaoili also shared how the partnership will help fund Bantay Kalikasan’s projects, stating, “Our goal is ridge-to-reef approach. I hope this partnership will continue to support our initiatives in Batangas, Mindoro, and Romblon.”
Through this renewed partnership, ABS-CBN Foundation and DENSO Philippines Corporation are committed and inspired by a shared responsibility in protecting and sustaining the environment by engaging in projects and initiatives that promote responsible disposal and recycling of hazardous materials.
