Learning Beyond Words. Empowering Through Signs.
At 32, Maricar worked as a house helper.
School was something she thought she had already missed.
Not because she lacked intelligence.
But because life, distance, finances, and silence made it harder.
Through the ALSenyas Project of Davao de Oro, she was given a second chance.
Through ABS-CBN Foundation Programa Genio’s donated digital devices, lessons became visible.
Sign-supported videos could be replayed.
Confidence grew quietly, steadily.
And this year she completed her basic education.
This isn’t just about tablets, monitors, or a television unit.
It’s about dignity.
It’s about opportunity.
It’s about proving that Deaf does not mean limited.
Education should never depend on the ability to hear.

One story multiplies.
We recently shared Maricar’s journey, a 32-year-old who returned to learning and completed her basic education.
But in this classroom in Davao de Oro, her story is shared by others.
Angeline, 23.
Diane, 34.
Elve Mae, 22.
and Maricar.
Deaf learners who once faced barriers to education: distance, financial hardship, and limited access to inclusive learning.
Through the DepEd ALSenyas Project, they found a second chance: deaf learners are now participating in class discussions, completing lessons, and preparing for higher education or jobs.
With digital learning tools donated by Programa Genio, students can easily follow lessons, review materials at home, and develop practical skills for daily life.
Guided by Teacher Jumay Feb Mendoza, this classroom reminds us of one simple truth:
Education should never depend on the ability to hear.
Note: All beneficiaries gave their consent to use their names and/or photographs in the social media posts of ABS-CBN Foundation.
