ABS-CBN Foundation Sagip Kapamilya extended support to animals affected by disasters by providing pet food and essential supplies to 159 dogs and 21 cats at the main pet shelter of the Island Rescue Organization (IRO) in Barangay Guba, Cebu City.
Aside from the animals in the shelter, other animals affected by the disaster were also reached, including stray dogs and cats outside the area.
The IRO pet shelter has suffered multiple disasters, beginning with an earlier earthquake that caused visible ground cracks and soil collapse in the area. The situation worsened following the onslaught of Typhoon Tino last month, which damaged roofs and several temporary dog shelters.
Due to the area’s continued exposure to hazards, IRO is currently seeking a safer location for the relocation of its shelter to better protect the animals under its care.
Annalyn Aizpuru, President of the Island Rescue Organization, expressed her gratitude to ABS-CBN Foundation Sagip Kapamilya and its donors, emphasizing that the support affirmed their belief that “pets are also Kapamilya,” especially as they continue to care for animals affected by successive disasters.
