For many senior high school students, graduation is not the end of a journey—it is the beginning of a much bigger question: What comes next? 🤔🎯
In Nicomedes R. Tubar Sr. National High School in Iloilo, fifty Grade 12 students were standing at that crossroads. They were bright. They were determined. But financial challenges threatened to hold them back during a crucial stage of their education—their internship or on-the-job training (OJT), where they needed transportation, daily allowances, and funds for requirements that many families simply could not afford. 🚍🍱✏️
This was the moment the Gloria R. Dy Sun Foundation stepped in.
Through its generous partnership with Programa Genio of the ABS-CBN Foundation, these fifty young people became part of the Redefining Scholarship Program—an initiative that goes beyond tuition assistance to provide holistic support for students as they prepare for life after high school. 🎒🌟
The scholarship covered transportation for OJT, meals, school supplies, and application fees for certifications and entrance exams. More than that, the students received guidance and encouragement to help them transition confidently into college, employment, or entrepreneurship.💼
For many scholars, this support arrived at a time when their dreams felt fragile.
“I thought my dream was too expensive to pursue,” shared Bengie, now a Computer Science freshman. “But this scholarship felt like someone was telling me—go ahead, we believe you can do it.”
Others found the courage to push forward even when life was overwhelming.
“There were days I doubted myself,” said Jelian, now studying Midwifery. “But knowing someone believed in me gave me the strength to continue.”
Today, scholars from this program are now enrolled in universities and colleges, working in their chosen fields, or beginning livelihood pathways. They are pursuing Nursing, Civil Engineering, Information Technology, Education, Journalism, Hospitality Management, and more. Some are already applying the skills they learned during OJT to their first jobs. 🧰
Behind every degree program, every ID issued, every first day of class or first day at work, is the Foundation’s message:
