In just one year, Uniqlo and the ABS-CBN Foundation successfully trained Bantay Dagat from Mabini, Batangas to become citizen scientists. They have also been equipped with tools like underwater cameras and freediving gear that are now being used to monitor and protect the waters of Mabini and the Verde Island Passage. 📊🐠
To mark this milestone, the Uniqlo team experienced firsthand what it means to safeguard our reefs. They dove into one of our reef monitoring sites and joined a citizen science activity, witnessing the vibrant marine life thriving beneath the surface 🤿🌺. The team also joined a coastal cleanup with the support of the Plastic Palit Bigas Project (PPB), the Marine Education and Preservation (MEP) Institute, and members of the local community.
Uniqlo also turned over AIRism clothing items to our citizen scientists and to SiSead, a community-based group of mostly female swimmers from Lobo who clean both the coast and ocean waters, promoting marine protection in their community.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible: Mabini Bantay Dagat, the Mabini Integrated Coastal Management Office (Mabini ICM), the Mabini Local Government Unit (Mabini Tourism & MENRO), PPB-, MEP Institute, SiSead, Volunteer Freedivers and most especially Uniqlo, for your unwavering commitment to sustainability and protecting our environment 💙
This spirit of collaboration is what we exclaim and celebrate. Together, in the service of the Filipino, we can achieve greater heights for our communities and for the planet 🌏✨
